The Barthle Family has been raising cattle since the days of the open range of the early 1900’s. Land for the location today was purchased in the 1930’s. The primary focus of the ranch today is producing feeder calves for western feedlots, using Angus, Hereford and Brahman cross cattle. Charolais bulls are used as a terminal cross.
During the 1940’s, Purebred Brahmans and a Registered Quarter horse herd was started. Our AQHA herd goes back to the foundation bloodlines. The foundation sire was Wrangler N1272 (Joe Hancock bred). Also, almost every mare traces back to Mui Bonita L (double bred Hickory Bill). Through the years the bloodlines of King P234, Three Bars, Blondy’s Dude, and Cutter Bill have been added. We now have Hancock Flit Bar who traces back to Blue Valentine and Red Man four times. The main goal we strive for is to produce well built, gentle and athletic horses with a lot of cow sense. Our horses are used to work cattle and perform, primarily in Rodeo timed events, but some have found their way to cutters, reiners, team penners, and even jumpers.
We strive to produce feeder calves that are high yield, and high quality grade, that fill the demands of today’s beef industry and beef consumers. Our Purebred Brahman cattle are gentle and stout, with moderate frame scores. We raise bulls for our own use, while keeping in mind the attributes that other beef producers are looking for in herd bulls.
